Barton Springs is a staple of Austin and one of the most popular swimming holes in Austin. Located within the 358-acres of Zilker Park lies one of the crown jewels of Austin. Barton Springs Pool in Austin measures 3-acres in size and is filled with water from the Main Barton Spring--the fourth largest spring in Texas.

The popular recreational outdoor swimming pool attracts all locals and tourists all over the globe. Up to this day, it still attracts a diverse crowd of people setting a record number of visitors at almost 800,000 to 1.5 million in recent years. Barton Springs Pool has an average temperature of 68 to 70 degrees which is ideal for all-year-round swimming. The depths range from 0” to 18”

Barton Springs Pool is home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander and is listed as a federally protected habitat. Every Thursday, from 9 am to 7 pm, the pool is closed for maintenance to keep the area clean for the guests and especially for wildlife.

The area is open to plenty of activities, however, there are still prohibited items and activities such as coolers, ice chests, and thermal bags, glass, food, smoking, alcohol. Frisbees, footballs, soccer balls or other hard balls are prohibited as well. Drinks are permitted but it must be within a plastic resealable container. Pets are not allowed, but if you are looking into bringing your fur friend with you for a walk, Zilker Botanical Gardens is not too far from the pool.

Some of the well-known neighborhoods surrounding Barton Springs Pool are Zilker and Barton Hills. Barton Springs Pool in Austin is definitely one of the best swimming spots in Austin, Texas.


Barton Springs Pool Hours

Barton Springs Pool Cost

For the admission into the pool, there is a ticket kiosk in front of the Barton Springs Bathhouse and the south pool entrance where guests can purchase tickets using their debit and credit cards.

Here are the following fees for Barton Spring Pool:

Senior (62 years old and above) - $2 for residents; $5 for non-residents

Adult (18-62 years) - $5 for residents; $9 for non-residents

Junior (12-17 years) - $3 for residents; $5 for non-residents

Child (1-11 years) - $2 for residents; $4 for non-residents

Children under 1 year - FREE for residents; FREE for non-residents
